Challenges

The City of Greater Geelong were not able to implement certain new services, and were lacking in features that newer versions of Windows Server could offer.

Solutions

An investigation of the councils existing Active Directory Infrastructure and core applications was carried out prior to any upgrade and implementation work to ensure that the core infrastructure was not affected. This resulted in no downtime during the upgrade.

Outcomes

City of Greater Geelong Council now have an up to date Active Directory infrastructure which allows them to confidently plan and implement future application upgrades. The new upgraded environment also added the additional functionality necessary to support claims and forms based authentication for use by in-house applications.

Client Overview

Located some 75 kilometres from the Melbourne CBD, the municipality covers 1,247km2, comprising country, coastal and suburban areas. Greater Geelong is bounded by the Moorabool Shire in the north, Wyndham City and the Borough of Queenscliffe in the east, Surf Coast Shire and Golden Plains Shire in the west and Bass Strait in the south.

Project Summary

Dilignet was engaged to upgrade GCC’s existing internal and DMZ AD infrastructure from 2008 to 2012 R2 and to ensure environmental security and compatibility with existing applications. This will enable GCC to implement new solutions, including their new Lync PABX system, using the new domain. The council felt that having the foundation of their IT infrastructure was of the upmost importance.
