Challenges

VIT had a secondary data centre and legacy processes that related to failover of key services to invoke disaster recovery. There was some uncertainty around this which had the impact to not meet RPO and RTO set by VIT.

Solutions

Dilignet leveraged Microsoft Operations Management Suite and its BCDR technology to protect on-premise workloads on VMWare and replicating those to the Azure Cloud. This reduced the RPO/RTOs from days to minutes.

Outcomes

Migration and the decommissioning of VITs secondary data centres, improved RPO/RTOs and migration of key workloads to the Cloud, as well as reduced risk within the VIT environment.

“Dilignet fulfilled all our expectations,
they did not just meet them, they exceeded them!”

Bruce Lawrence, Technical Project Manager, VIT

Client Overview

The Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) is an independent statutory authority for the teaching profession, whose primary function is to regulate members of the teaching profession. The VIT was established by the Victorian Institute of Teaching Act 2001 on 18 December 2002.

Project Summary

VIT needed to eliminate the risk and complexity involved in running a disaster recovery site for their critical applications and required a simplified testing and reporting for compliance that still adhered to audit compliance requirements. VIT also wanted to Improve on the RPO that they currently offer as a business for disaster recovery. VIT engaged Dilignet to leverage the Cloud to improve on their disaster recovery solution. By engaging Dilignet, VIT leveraged Azure Site Recovery (ASR) which included migrating their data from their on-premise, secondary datacentre to the cloud, thus addressing their requirement to improve DR, and in so doing, helped them adopt Cloud. Dilignet took a step-by-step approach for this engagement and started with an assessment of the existing environment to determine if there were any constraints and identify the gaps before configuring Windows Azure Tenancy for VIT.
